Good news! There is a new place in London to satisfy my addiction to cinnamon buns. For those of you who don’t know, cinnamon buns are quintessentially Scandinavian. They hold a similar status in the Scandi culture as scones do for the English, macaroons to the French, or donuts to the Americans. They may be one of the main reasons for the high consumption of coffee in the Nordic countries. A coffee break always calls for something sweet (we call it ‘coffee bread’ in Finland) and the cinnamon-cardamon taste of cinnamon buns goes so well with a cup of coffee.

For my big delight, cinnamon buns are finding their way to the world. During a shopping trip in London’s Covent Garden I was very happy to come across with Bageriet. Daniel Karlsson, a Swedish pastry chef, has set up a tiny coffee shop in one of the side streets from Long Acre. The cafe is very inviting with its light decor, comfortable seating, windows and walls covered in Swedish treats from biscuits to jams and cinnamon buns.

Although Bageriet specialises in many types of Swedish cakes and pastries, my choice was, of course, a cinnamon bun with cafe latte. Bageriet’s cinnamon buns are perfect with their fluffy consistency and the right amount of sweetness, cinnamon and cardamon.

The shop has a great selection of biscuits and jams to offer as a present or simply to enjoy at home. If I was to throw a fancy party, I might even use their ordering service and have one of their Prinsesstårta, a Princess Cake, which is my absolute dream cake. A Princess Cake comes with a light sponge, raspberry jam, vanilla custard, fresh cream filling, and light green marzipan topping.

Bageriet may not be helping with my plan to eat less sweets and go less to the West End, but it certainly gives me another piece of Scandinavia in the big city. If you are interested in filling up your day with other great Nordic things to do, see also my earlier post (Live like a Scandi in London for a day).

    • Hei Daniela! Olisi tosi mukava mennä pian yhdessä kahvilaan! Bageriet on lähellä Sugar Sin karkkikauppaa Covent Gardenissa, eli päivästä tulisi täydellinen Scandinaavinen karkkipäivä! 🙂
